In a recent article, we discussed the basics of writing a cheque and a sample. The first step is to write the amount. You will want to write the dollar amount on the line below the "Pay to the order of" line. The amount should be written in words instead of numbers, as this will prevent the recipient from adding money. We also added the word "even" and the cents to make it easy for the reader to remember why we wrote the check.
The amount of the payment should also be in large numbers, but you do not want to leave blank spaces. Always write the amount from the left margin. After writing the amount, you can make a horizontal line to make it easier to read. The next step is to include the payee's name. You can also add the word "or" after the payee's name. Be sure to avoid adding a line in the middle of the box to prevent fraudulent writing.
The amount must also be written in words. While it is not legally required, it makes it clear how much money you are withdrawing. The cheque can have fractions pre-printed on it. If this is the case, you should write zero dollars first and then write the cents. If the numerator is blank, you do not have to include a dollar amount. If you are writing a cheque for someone else, you should also write the amount in the correct format.
